Visiting Churches
The Walking and Explorers groups have found that many of their members can’t resist an opportunity to open the doors of a church they are passing and have a look inside. Ornate stone and wood carvings, including “Mouseman” examples, both ancient and modern stained glass windows and painted and embroidered freezes are some that have been stumbled upon. We have a vast variety of churches in the area some big, some small, some special, some not so special, but every one has a unique story to tell. These stories are embedded within the fabric of the church and in the social history of the generations of local lords, vicars, and ordinary people who have contributed to the making of the church as we see it today.

If you are one of our members who would like longer to explore these treasures please sign up to the newly formed Visiting Churches group. At present it is set up as a registration group for members to show an interest. Exactly how and when it will be run will be up to these members to decide, but it will probably be a monthly visit to one or two churches, possibly combining the visits with a lunch or picnic.

Please note that this is not a walking or public transport group; travel would probably be by car share.
