Georgian Boom Time

On this town-centre tour we consider the shape of medieval Malton, bring the Georgian town to life and explain how Malton developed into a prosperous market centre. We talk about the people who have made their mark on the town over the centuries, including statesmen, racehorse breeders and the doctor’s wife whose artistic talent has added so much to the record of the town’s rich history.

Cost £10.00 per person, includes an information pack.

“So much to see in the town brought to life so well by the guides”

Future trips and meetings

Evening and Happy Christmas to all

Please see the programme for the Easingwold U3A History Group for 2026 below. The schedule is subject to change and open to suggestions from members.

Please note there is no meeting this Thursday, its been too busy to arrange anything

Main themes for 2026, the Civil War, Local History (Easingwold, on), Maritime Hull, Essential history tools (archiving & archaeology)

Overview of key activities

  • Civil War in Yorkshire — initial discussion group followed by visits to local Civil War sites, a walk in York, and the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
  • Local History — focus on Easingwold and Malton with guided visits.
  • Maritime Hull — a big year for Hull; we plan at least one fullday visit.
  • Churches Group — separate programme in development; a highlight will be the Sykes Churches Trail in the Wolds, possibly including Sledmere.
  • Heritage Open Days — we will try to take part in events around York in September.

Meetings and travel

  • When: Normally the third Thursday of the month.
  • Time: Morning or afternoon depending on venue and member availability.
  • Hull visit: Fullday trip.
  • Travel: Where possible we will car share or use local buses.

Help needed

As always, we need members to help with planning and running activities: organising transport, leading visits, suggesting topics, and leading discussion groups. I have limited knowledge of the Civil War and will rely on members to contribute expertise and leadership.
