This group is aimed at people who have not done any family tree research, beyond dabbling.

Would you like to know where your roots are - where you really came from?

I was convinced I was a Londoner until I found my 2x Great Grandfather was born in North Devon and he became a Master Mariner crossing the Atlantic frequently with 14 year old family members in his crew. I now have living relatives in USA, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Jamaica most of whom I have met or chatted to.

We will help you develop your family tree in a manner which endeavours to protect you from making significant mistakes - eg developing a tree for the same surname but finding later it is not your family.

I am an experienced Genealogist with thirty years of research for myself and friends, unpaid as a hobby. With support it will not take you thirty years, more likely just one.

In due course you will need to use a PC or MAC but if you are not confident with technology I am sure I can provide some training.

I cannot be a full-time support service. However if you hit a problem with technology or research I will do my best. You will do the work but with full guidance at our meetings and ongoing support.

The cost of this research will be in the region of £30 for certificates, £80 for a family tree App (the one I use was developed in Ukraine), and £10.99 a month subscription later on for a research App (for a few months, can cancel and rejoin without loss of data). This is needed when research gets to the early 1900’s. If we all use the same tools then I can provide support and give you training. There may be ways of minimising the cost. So if this is a real issue for you please let me know after you have joined.

We will have monthly meetings (day and time to be agreed together) at my home and I am able to offer an evening meeting slot if necessary.
